The rise of digital platforms has transformed competition and challenged traditional antitrust frameworks. This chapter analyzes Meta Platforms Inc. as a paradigmatic case of market power in the digital economy, focusing on the role of strategic acquisitions, network effects, data accumulation, ecosystem integration, and algorithmic capabilities. The chapter proposes a multidimensional interpretation of market power and examines the responses of antitrust authorities in the European Union and the United States. Particular attention is devoted to the impact of artificial intelligence and its potential to reinforce, transform, or weaken existing forms of digital dominance. The findings suggest that competition policy must move beyond traditional price-based approaches and incorporate data governance, AI capabilities, and computational resources as emerging sources of market power in digital markets.

Abstract
The findings suggest that competition policy must move beyond traditional price-based approaches and incorporate data governance, AI capabilities, and computational resources as emerging sources of market power in digital markets.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
