This paper presents a study developed from a teaching experience carried out as part of the Drawing and Computer-Aided Representation Laboratory within the Industrial Design degree programme, which uses J. G. Ballard’s novel High-Rise as a tool to investigate the relationship between text, architecture and representation. Starting from the idea that narrated space can be interpreted as a device for constructing spatial configurations, the study offers a reflection on the possible typological references of Ballard’s skyscraper, exploring in depth the relationship between the vertical city described by Ballard and contemporary residential models. Through a workshop-based experience centred on translating the narrated space into images, the paper also reflects on the role of drawing as an interpretative practice and on the new modes of representation introduced by generative artificial intelligence into representational processes.

Abstract
This paper presents a study developed from a teaching experience carried out as part of the Drawing and Computer-Aided Representation Laboratory within the Industrial Design degree programme, which uses J. G. Ballard’s novel High-Rise as a tool to investigate the relationship between text, architecture and representation. Starting from the idea that narrated space can be interpreted as a device for constructing spatial configurations, the study offers a reflection on the possible typological references of Ballard’s skyscraper, exploring in depth the relationship between the vertical city described by Ballard and contemporary residential models. Through a workshop-based experience centred on translating the narrated space into images, the paper also reflects on the role of drawing as an interpretative practice and on the new modes of representation introduced by generative artificial intelligence into representational processes.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
