This article offers a reflection on the beauty of the Neutral in Andy Warhol’s work, placing it at the crossroads between aesthetics, queer theory, and political philosophy. In contrast to the hyper-politicization of queer after 1990, Warhol’s Neutral is not apolitical, but rather a departure from metalanguage and the militant paradigm. Through the category of fetishism, reinterpreted in the light of Marx and Freud, the seriality of commodities becomes the site of a radical exposure of capitalist fetishism and its metaphysics. This logic neutralizes difference, particularly sexual difference, suspending the phallic apparatus without falling into a simple parody of gender. In the Self-Portraits in Drag, a melancholic de-genitalization of the body takes place, inscribing the mourning of the phallus at the very heart of the image. The beauty of the Neutral thus designates a modern form of silent politicality, capable of disturbing the symbolic order without resorting to the rhetoric of commitment.

Abstract
The beauty of the Neutral thus designates a modern form of silent politicality, capable of disturbing the symbolic order without resorting to the rhetoric of commitment.| File | Dimensione | Formato | |
